Pre-university Mathematics Olympiad

This past Saturday April 6th 2019, the first annual Pre-university Mathematics Olympiad took place in the High School Building of Colegio Highlands.

This event was born as a student initiative from the members of our school’s Math Club: Highlands’ Society of Mathematical Excellence. Our goal was to create an intercollegiate mathematics competition for high school students who are passionate about mathematics and want to excel in relevant competitions for their university applications.

We counted with the participation of a total of 30 students from 10th, 11th, and 12th grades from four local schools: Escuela Americana, Colegio Internacional, Colegio Salvadoreño Inglés, and Colegio Highlands.

It was a beautiful morning full of friendship, passion for mathematics, and competition. The competition rounds consisted in a first phase of individual tests according to grade level, and a second phase of a group competition testing team work and mathematical reasoning and logic.

The champion school, the one with the highest combined score in both competitions, was Colegio Salvadoreño Inglés. Congratulations to the winner!

We will be expecting you all with open arms in 2020 for the second Pre-university Mathematics Olympiad!
